The Food
Anyone who has been on a previous Lakes Writers' course will know why the food has become such a feature! Joe Story is our regular chef, who provides superb meals, plus special catering for anyone who needs it – vegetarian, vegan, coeliac, you name it, he's produced it.
The following is just a sample menu from 2007...
Day 1
Supper
Bacon, haddock and salmon chowder with an assortment of breads
Vol-au-vents filled with chestnuts, onions, parsnips and mushrooms, in a red wine sauce. Served with new potatoes, peas and broccoli
English summer fruit trifle and cream
Day 2
Breakfast
A choice of cereals, stewed apples with yoghurt and honey, hot croissants with spreads, plain or cheese omelettes
Lunch
A mess of pottage - spinach, beetroot, lentils and chilli soup, chicken wings in barbeque sauce, cheeses, fresh fruit and salad
Supper
Pasta salad with tomatoes, garlic and olives
Lamb curry served with peppers stuffed with apricots, rice and poppadums
Orange sorbet
Day 3
Breakfast
A choice of cereals, stewed apples with yoghurt and honey, hot croissants with spreads, bacon and creamed mushrooms
Lunch
A range of cold meats and sandwich fillings for packed lunches, fruit, crisps, chocolate biscuits...
Hot and cold drinks, fresh fruit and snacks are available at any time in the designated area in the kitchen. Wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks are served with supper. Alternatives can be served for any items on the menu provided sufficient notice is given.
